The Medical Image Processing Research Group (MIPRG) was established in 2013 under the visionary leadership of Dr. Hammad Omer, a Tenured Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, COMSATS University Islamabad. The primary aim of MIPRG is to spearhead impactful research endeavors that address both national and global challenges within the realm of Medical Imaging, with a specific emphasis on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
Remarkably, MIPRG has achieved significant recognition on both national and international fronts in a relatively short span of time. The group’s accomplishments are evident in the successful completion of nine doctoral scholars’ PhD programs under its guidance. Concurrently, several more promising students are actively engaged in cutting-edge MRI research as part of their doctoral studies.
The research group has nurtured the growth of over 20 graduate students who have successfully completed their Master’s theses within the field of Medical Imaging. Additionally, MIPRG has provided a platform for more than 50 undergraduate students from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering to delve into innovative Final Year Projects (FYPs) centered around various advanced MRI aspects. These students have since ventured into esteemed roles within diverse national and international organizations and universities, where they continue to make meaningful contributions.
MIPRG has consistently showcased its commitment to disseminating high-quality research findings. The group’s researchers have published over 200 research articles in internationally renowned journals and esteemed conferences. Furthermore, the innovative drive of MIPRG has led to the attainment of four international patents in the field of MRI, as recognized by the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USTPO).
The dedication and excellence of MIPRG members have not gone unnoticed. Their hard work has been rewarded with numerous national and international accolades, grants, and scholarships. These honors have been bestowed upon individuals associated with MIPRG by esteemed institutions such as the Geneva Teaching Hospital in Switzerland, University of Iowa in the USA, University of Barcelona in Spain, King’s College London, German Cancer Research Center, Dresden University of Technology in Germany, University of Nottingham in the UK, Case Western Reserve University in the USA, Linkoping University in Sweden, City University of Hong Kong, University of Waterloo in Canada, National University of Science & Technology in Taiwan, and more. The group’s researchers have also secured highly competitive international conference and travel grants, further validating the significant impact of their research.
In light of these remarkable achievements, it is evident that MIPRG has emerged as a powerhouse of MRI research at both national and international levels. As MIPRG continues its journey, its endeavors are met with well-deserved admiration and wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
